The annual Forbes list of America’s 400 wealthiest persons is out. Here is a look at who makes it to the top 10 in the pandemic riddled year:
1. Jeff Bezos
Leading with a net worth of $186.9 Billion is the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos. Bezos has held this rank since 2017 and is the first centi-billionaire on Forbes’ list. Bezos is also the founder of the aerospace manufacturer and sub-orbital spaceflight services company Blue Origin. He bought out The Washington Post in 2013 for $250 million and has many other investments under Bezos Expeditions venture capital firm.
2. Bill Gates
In second place is Microsoft giant Bill Gates with a net worth of $115.6 Billion. Known for his multi-talented abilities, this whizkid now chairs the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the world’s largest private charitable foundation jointly with his wife Melinda. Gates attended Harvard but his biggest teacher has always been life.
3. Mark Zuckerberg
At number 3 is the creator of Facebook, the social network, Mark Zuckerberg. Another Harvard attendee, Zuckerberg launched his networking service from his dormitory and became the world’s youngest self-made billionaire at the age of 23. He has never left the Forbes chart since. As of September 2020, Zuckerberg’s net worth is $111 billion.
4. Warren Buffett
The “Oracle of Omaha,” Warren Buffett comes a close 4th in the list of wealthiest American men of the year. Buffett has been the chairman of Berkshire Hathaway since 1970. He is also the largest shareholder of the company. HIs founder centric strategy of investing in businesses has earned him the moniker Sage/Oracle in the media. Buffett has a net worth of $83 Billion.
5. Larry Ellison
Larry Ellison the chairman, chief technology officer, and co-founder of software giant Oracle has a net worth of $78.3 Billion. Ellison is a graduate of the University of Chicago.
6. Steve Ballmer
The owner of the Los Angeles Clippers of the National Basketball Association (NBA), Steve Balmer has a net worth of $71.4 billion, Balmer made his fortune working for Microsoft. He ultimately retired from Microsoft as its CEO- a position he took over from Bill Gates, the man who initially hired him.
7. Elon Musk
Elon Musk revolutionized the world of automobiles with his eclectic car making company Tesla. He recreated the same magic for space with SpaceX Musk is currently estimated to have a net worth of $68 billion. He also holds the distinction of being the longest-tenured CEO of any automotive manufacturer.
8. Larry Page
Google co-founder Larry Page who also served as a CEO on its parent service, Alphabet, is the 8th richest man in America 2020. He has a net worth of $69.4 billion.
9. Sergey Brin
Sergey Brin, the other co-founder of Google holds a net value of $65.5 billion. With Page, Brin also served on the founding board of Alphabet before becoming joint shareholders and board members.
10. Jim Walton
At number ten is Jim Walton, the youngest son of Walmart founder, Sam Walton. Before taking up his deceased brother John’s position on the Wal-Mart Board of Directors, Walton served as CEO of Arvest Bank, and Chairman of newspaper firm Community Publishers Inc. (CPI). Walton currently also serves on Wal-Mart’s Strategic Planning and Finance committees. He is estimated to have a net worth of $64.5 Billion.
